Ada Lovelace was a mathematician and one of the first computer scientists. She was born in 1815 and died of cancer in 1952. Her computing work began with another mathematician by the name of Charles Babbage. In 1833, she met Babbage, who showed her a demonstration of an "Engine", or a machine he had been working on. Lovelace began working on it with Babbage, and she added many notes and ideas of her own to the machine. She is credited with the design of the Analytical Engine, which could process and calculate simple programs. Lovelace never had any major academic achievements or degrees, but has gone down in history as the original computer programmer.
